There are two types of format that are good for creating a receptionist resume: skill based or traditional style. Traditional based resume contains the list of your education and work experience in a reverse chronological order while skill based receptionist r esume mainly focuses on your talents and abilities rather than your chronological work history. You can briefly list your previous education and employment records. According to a resume guide that was offered by a highly recognized university known as Brigham Young, skill based resume usually highlights your qualifications without calling any attention to gaps in employment, frequent changes in jobs and terminations; though traditional resume always makes it easier for potential employers to see more specifically what you have accomplished at each of your previous jobs.
- Place your contact information at the top of the document. Include your physical address, phone number, email address and your website (if applicable)
- Create a short paragraph describing your job objectives. Your job objectives should be tailored to the potential employer as to why you are applying for this job, and we can bring to the company.
- List all of your education history in a reverse chronological order. Make sure you include the name of the school you attended, types of degree you completed and the years you attended.
- Make a list of your work history in a reverse chronological order, starting with the most recent job. Make sure you included the names of each employer, the years you worked, and have a list of your roles and responsibilities.
- List some of the special skills you have, things that can be helpful are: your typing speed, additional languages you speak, computer programs and systems that you are comfortable with. Try to list any honor or awards you received in areas that pertains to the job for which you are applying.
Skills Based Resume
- Place your contact information and name at the top of the document. Include your physical address, phone number, email address and a website if you have got one.
- Create a summary of the qualifications you have. You have to list these underneath your contact information. If you worked as a receptionist before, you might include the human interaction skills you learned from it. You have to also list your quantifiable skills, like filing, typing, faxing and many more.
- Break down the skills you have into three or four categories, then try to elaborate on those specific skills sets and relate them to the job you are applying to.
- List you past jobs briefly and the date and duration of employment, as well as the past education history. Each and every entry should be on one line. Do not elaborate with any kind of descriptions in this section because we want the focus of your receptionist resume on skills, and you already described your work history earlier in your document.
